Home Base

Special Occasions come with special treats - chocolate covered strawberry and white chocolate truffle!

Since I can't go to a winery every day (much as I might like to) I had to find a home base. Thank goodness Central Ohio has a Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant! If you are lucky enough to live near one of their locations I highly recommend checking them out.

I joined their wine club to take advantage of the anniversary month (October) double bottle, which meant I received the equivalent of 4 bottles for the price of 2. Win-win, right? It sure was! Five years later, I am still a member. With a double-bottle membership (currently $37.99/month) you receive 2 bottles plus a wine tasting for 2. You can choose to take your bottles home or, AND THIS IS HUGE FOR ME, you can have it served at your table with dinner. Imagine!!! A bottle of wine served to your table for $19.00! Find that price anywhere else in Ohio!

And the wines are definitely worth stopping in to try. The tasting room offers a wide variety of red, white and sparkling wines. Among the reds, I am partial to the Barbera, Lux Meritage and the Malbec. But, this year, Cooper's Hawks red wines of the month (each month has a wine of the month and it alternates between red and white) have been outstanding. The Barrel Reserve in April was full-bodied and should hold well for a few years. June's Washington Cabernet Sauvignon (shown above) has a rich mouth feel with dark cherry and tobacco flavors. Alas, as with most of the monthly wines, buy it when you try it because they are snapped up quick!

Good wine doesn't make a meal but the food at CH is exceptional! I am partial to filets and I would put Cooper's Hawk's selections up against many of the high-end steakhouses for a much more reasonable cost. The appetizer menu has so many great selections that I have been known to just make 2 or 3 my meal. But, truthfully, between Madam Ambassador and myself we have tried almost every entree and have not found one yet that we wouldn't recommend.

In Ohio, you can find Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurants at Easton in Columbus, Kenwood in Blue Ash (Cincinnati), Liberty Center in West Chester, and in the Cleveland area (opening approximately December 2018).
